Italy’s year was characterised by close attention to national economic affairs, together with determined efforts by Eigno? .Mussolini to create a#ipliere of Italian Influence in Southern Europe. His stand on behalf of Austrian independence, following the assassination of Dr. Dollfuss, had the effect of curbing German activities in that direction.
.More recently, ladful handling of Hie situation following the assassination of Mie la King Alexander of Yugoslavia, avoided a dangerous tension between ilaly and that country. The year closed, however, on a note of strife, with a threat of I rouble between Hus Italian lied Sea outpost of Erilrea and Hie Abyssinian Empire. Dalian' colonial am bit ions were being pushed 100 'far and 100 fasl in North Africa and the Abyssiuians showed no doubt of their resentment.
