IN GRIP OF HEAT-WAVE
GALES AND DUST-STORMS.
HIGH AUSTRALIAN TEMPERATURES MUCH DAMAGE REPORTED/ United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Dec. 18, 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 18. South Australia, Victoria, and the Inland districts of New South Wales are now In the grip of a heat wave. Temperatures In excess of 100 degrees are numerous. In this State, the highest reading is at White cliffs where 112 degrees are recorded. The highest recording in Victoria was at Redcliffs, being 116 degrees. Blinding dust storms occurred in the Bailee and Wimmera districts, while at Donald much damage was done by a cyclone, the roofs of verandahs being blown away, trees uprooted and fences flattened.
At Adelaide the temperature was 101 degrees, while Renmark registered 112. Houses were unroofed and sheds and telephone poles blown down by a gale at Booleroo, Port Germain, and Youra.
In other northern towns business was suspended owing to the storm and darkness caused by clouds of dust.
