AN UP-TO-DATE VESSEL.
ORIENT LINER ORONSAY. The Orient liner Oronsay, 20,000 tons, which is to visit Auckland and Wellington between Christmas and New Year, Is one of the vessels of the Orient Company’s post-war programme and embodies many new features not incorporated in earlier designs. The Oronsay is Gs7ft Gin in length, of 75ft beam, and 47ft depth to upper (“E”) deck. .She lias a handsome appcaranco with her graceful lines, two large funnels, extensive deck erections and long cruiser stern and lias in all eight decks, seven of which are given over to the use of passengers. The vessel lias been built to Lloyd’s highest classification and to the requirements of the Board ol’ Trade and I lie Commonwealth Government regulations as a first-class passenger steamer. The total complement of the vessel is about 2000, made up of 500 first class and 1000 third class passengers, the remainder being officers and crew. The ship being planned for Ihe carriage of two classes of passengers only, enables a greater amount of space to lie devoted to the public rooms and promenading areas in ordering the new additions to their fleet tlm Orient Company aimed at providing as far as possible what every traveller desires, viz., a cabin to himself, and, as with many other details, the provision on iho Oronsay and sister ships of more single berth cabins Ilian on any oilier ships ailoat gave a lead to shipbuilders throughout Hie world. All first-class callins are lilted with either a window or a porlhole.
