DECEMBER MEETING HELD.

RAGWORT CONTROL EXPENSES. Mr W. C. Kennedy presided at the December meeting of the Plako County Council, when Messrs J. M. Stewart, W. F. Starke, W, H. Emett, W. McLean, W. R. Lowry, D. Johnson and J. Hanks were also present. ... The district, engineer or the Public Works Department wrote stating that Cabinet had approved the roadlng work at Hoe-o-Talnui to give access to Crown lands. The cost would be £9OO, of, which the Unemployment Board's amount would be £252, and that or the Piako County £319. Loans Conversion. A communication was received from the Treasury drawing attention to the recent legislation relative to loans conversion, and suggesting the levying, or a security rate on a differential basis over the various legal subdivisions, Tho Unemployment Board notlllod that it lmd been decided to grant Christinas relief equal to one week’s relief pay. Tho tender of Mr XV. J. Clare, at £678 4s for erection or part material of a new Shaftesbury bridge was accepted. Engineer’s Report. The engineer reported that in the past month 4 250 cubic yards of metal had been put down for maintenance. Mr Gilchrist read Hie agreement entered Into with the council granting certain rights. The chairman contended the council was not responsible for any different position caused by recent legislation lit regard lo heavy traillc, but would be willing lo -act iu accordance with the agreement.
