ANNUAL FIXTURE HELD. THE HIKER WINS HURDLES. PLATE TO FORD ACRE. KING MARCH’S GUP SUCCESS. (Times Special Reporter.) TE AWAMUTU, SaturdayIdeal weather conditions favoured the -annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club, held on 'the Club’s course, Te Awamutu, to-day. There _ was a good attendance of the public and the racing surface was hard- and fast. Some excellent racing was witnessed. Following are the results: —

E-. Pope, Takanini. Chromadyne was a firm Taney each way with £167 10s and £lll 10s, Pennyplain being second in demand -straight out ana third Taney for a place with £BB 10s and £9l 10s. The Hiker was third and fourth Taney respectively with £S6 and £B9, Pahu carrying £O4 for a place and Record Flight £4O the same way. It was an exciting finish in which Record Flight, after coming- again, failed only by the barest margin to wear down the winner. Silver Division and Record 'Flight made the early running showing out from Luminary, Chromadyne, The Hiker and Verden. Passing the stands Record Flight had 'hit the front where The Hiker, Silver Division, Pennyplain, Verden, 'Chromadyne, Carlisle, Pahu and Luminary were racing In that order. Approaching the back The Hiker ran past Record Flight and crossing the top was several lengths clear of Record Flight, chromadyne and Verden with Pennyplain, Silver Division, Luminary and Pahu following. There was little alteration in the order when they turned for home, The Hiker, at the ciistance, looking to have the race in -safe keeping. Record Flight, however, came through fast and Tailed only by a nose to catch The Hiker, Palm being eight lengths away third. Gilmer); 14—14 Rex Victor, 7.0 (Walker). Winner trained by N. F. McGuire, Te Aroha. Lifeguard was a firm fancy with £267 10s and £lB3 10s from Adalene, £ll4 and £144 and Enge £94 10s and £lO3 10s. Lady Zinnia carried £7l for a place and True Measure £4 8 the same way. Enge put up a solid performance as when the tapes were released he swerved out from No. 1 position and lost considerable ground. When Alley were rairly on their way Lifeguard was making the pace with Day Wind handy and Adalene, Sirona, Chief L;*»y Lady Zkmia and Mustang racing in a’ bunch. Lifeguard was still at the head or affairs at the home turn where Adalene was close up and Chief Lap, Day Wind, Lady Zinnia, Mustang and Rex Victor following with Enge making a forward move. In a fine finish Enge came through to-win narrowly by half-a-head from Lady Zinnia with True Measure one and a-haif lengths away third. Chief Lap was rourth followed by Day Wind, Adalene, Phiakuo, Lireguard, Mustang and waihinereihi. Time, 1.15 2-5.

Whirling £221 and £164 and Lady Ruler £l6l and £172 10s commanded most attention, Ford Acre being sixth rancy for a win and returning, a dividend or over a score and fourth fancy for a place with £26 and £62 10s. Astarth carried £123 Tor a place. , Worthy* King who drew the rails swerved badly as the field was despatched Lady Ruler being tho early leader from La Femnie Noire, Joyzell, Astarth, Whirling, Ford Acre and Whaddon Chase. Crossing the lop Astarth had surged to the rront with Whaddon Chase close up in front of La Femme Noire, Ford Acre, Whirling, (Lady Ruler and Calcutta. There was little between Astarth and Whaddon Chase around the home turn where Calcutta had run up to third in front of Ford Aero, Whirling, Carsbalton and Joyzell. Ford Acre came through in the run home to hang on nicely and beat Astarth by a neck. Lady Ruler was -threequarters or a length further back in front or Carsbalton. King’s Knave was tho first to become prominent and passing the stands was out six lengths from Prince Colossus, Mungatoon, Royal Artist, Gay Rroney and King March with Alloy bringing up the rear. Along tile hack King’s Knave was rout* lengths clear of Mungatoon and Prince Colossus with Royal Artist. Gay Rroney King March and Alloy. Crossing ihe top (lay Rroney had run up third behind King’s Knave and Mungatoon. King’s Knave was clear or Prince Colossus and Gay Rroney as they swung into the straight with Mungatoon, King March, Royal Artist and Alloy in that order. In a good finish King March wore ihe loader down lo win decisively by three-quarters of a length rront King’s Knave who heat Prince Colossus by half a length. Gay Rroney was rourth followed by Mungatoon, Royal Artist and Alloy. Time, 2.11 i-5.

Racing across the top Respectful drew level with Coronls and they came into the straight in that order followed by Tuaheahe, Gay Rose and V alpai. Another fine finish, saw Coronls hang on well to beat Gay Rose by a neck. The straight-out favourite finished fast on the rails to beat Respectful by two lengths. Lagoon was fourth with Valpai and Tuaheahe and Day Wind next. Time, 1.26 2-5. TROPHIES PRESENTED. At the conclusion of the Te Awamutu Cup the president of the club, Mr W. G. Park, presented the handsome trophy to Mr J. Terry on behalf of the owners, Mr O. Nicholson and Hon. E. R. Davis. At the conclusion of the Hack Cup the president presented the canteen of cutlery to Mr L. S. Otway. AN INQUIRY. An inquiry was held Into alleged interference in the Waipa Plate, the Judicial Committee finding that T. Green had to check his mount Acranna, who had got on the heels of another horse, -Swift Spear suffering from the interference which was accidental.

SEVERAL HORSES WORKING. (Special to Times.) TE AROITA, Saturday. Mr. J. Whitten, of Waihou, has just put Tin Lap and King Ara into work again, after a spell of some months. The Lapidary mare is in splendid trim to start her track work, while the King Lu-Arizona Maid gelding has developed into a really tine type of thoroughbred, and up to big weights. He moves very smoothly in his work and is likely to he a stayer. - Evidently Mr. P. A. Swney, the owner of Mungatoon, Mungacre and Lagoon, has ample faith in the future of racing. This week he effected the purchase from Mr. Seton Otway, of Cambridge, of the yearling filly by Gay Shield from a half sister, by Lackham, to Lady Marie (dam of Gay Sheik, Gay Sheila and Gay Blonde). The new purchase is well grown and shows quality.

Carries Weight Well. Mr. L. Lipscy, head man in Mrs. Taylor’s stable, lias the Ace gelding Ace High, on the improve. He shows galloping ability, and carries weight really well. The gelding by Raceful— The Whip in the same stable, is on Ihe easy list just now. lie still bears the- appearance tending to the probability that he may not come to hand early. J. 11. Wallace’ Whirlwind gelding. Mazir, who secured a second at Te Rapa recently, bar Just resumed work after being on tin easy list for three weeks consequent on receiving a kick on the hock.
