FARMER DROWNED.
THROWN FROM HORSE. CAUGHT BY FLOOD WATERS. DRAGAVILLE, Friday. . The first fatality in connection with the recent severe floods In the distrioj, happened last night, when’a wellknown farmer, Eber Baldwin (65),,0f Kirlkopuni, lost his life. Deceased, who was riding a horse, was wearing a heavy overcoat and. gum boots, and was proceeding from Kirikopuni to Tangiteroria, where there is still a good depth of water on the. road.
In endeavouring to force his horse through a fairly deep place the rider was thrown, the bridle came away, and deceased was'washed away.
A settler, Mr W. Taylor,, .who witnessed the accident, put out in a boat, but found no trace.
Later somel Maoris joined in the search but were unsuccessful. The body was found in an adjoining paddock this morning. Mr Baldwin served in the Great War, where he had two sons killed.
