The action of Police-Inspector Bony in suing the newspaper Grlngoire or £50.000 for alleged defamatory statements in connection with the revelations which followed the Stavisky scandals last February was lost. _ Counter-accusations against M. Bony were presen including a slateme ill to the efl'ecl that he had been an accomplice of Stavisky; that he had confused clues which might ha ve solved the mystery of the death ot tlie judge, M; Albert; Prince, whose body was found on a railway line alter a. train had passed; and that he had tampered wiilt the counterfoils to Stavisky’s cheques, and forged one, in order lo compromise a political opponent. Inspector Bony was later arrested on a charge of using official inlluence to obtain an expensive suit and overcoat iron) an ex-tailor, Yolbcrg, to whom he promised protection against expulsion orders, il is generally believed that the charge is merely an excuse lo hold Bony pending investigations of the accusations made in the libel charge of his connection with Slavisky and Prince.
