The weekly quotations are based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or iamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfleld market and/or London stores. They are compiled by the Quotations Committee, Smithfleld. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per .pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week, and are not selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer.
The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cablegram from Its London office, dated November 2:—Lamb: The market remains dull, with heavy-weights easier. Mutton: Wethers and ewes meeting with slightly better demand. Beef: Good demand, with prices unchanged. New Zealand porkers. Heavier arrivals have eased prices. New Zealand,, baconers: Nominal. The following has been compiled from the report of JI. S. Fitter and Sons, London:—Wethers: The reduction in prices has Improved the demand. Ewes: There is a better inquiry in the market. Lambs: The demand is moderate, with the market rather easier. Trade generally is slow owing to heavy supplies of fresh meat. Quotations: Wethers, light, 4 3-8 dto 4 5-8 d per lb.; heavy, 4d to 4 3-8 d; ewes, 2id to 3 5-8 d; lambs, twos, 6 5-8 d to 6 7-8 d; eights, 6 3-8 d to 6Jd; fours, aid to ssd; seconds, 6d to 6 3-Bd.
