A romantic disappearance of an illustrious man occurred about A.D. 850, when Wu Tao-Uu, greatest of all Chinese painters, finished bis famous landscape on the wall of the Imperial Palace. At the unveiling before tho royal court, he opened a “door" in the painting, stepped through it, and was never seen acala.
