HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL. REPAIRS TO HOSTEL. “The manner in which this matter has .been delayed is positively disgraceful,” 'commented. Mr. F. A. Snell, at a meeting of the Hamilton High School (Board of Governors yesterday when the question of the repairs to the existing buildings at the 'Girls Hostel that were damaged by fire some time ago was under discussion “The buildings as they are to 7 day are liable to drive boarders away and it is a serious thing for us.” There were present at the meeting Messrs. C. L, McDiarmid (chairman), J. Primrose, F. A. Snell, S. B. Sims, H. M. .E. Tidd, Mrs. A. M. Blsley, Mr. R. English (secretary) and Mr. Eben Wilson (principal). An apology for absence was received from j Dr. 'H. Douglas. The chairman agreed With Mr. Snell but staled that he had been in touch with the Whitehorn trustees again and was assured, that Kile work would commence 'immediately. There had been some delay as the mortgagors had to approve of the plans and specifications. Suggestion by Department. A letter from the Director of Education stated that aUhough lhe board's application for £250 for rent for the hostel had been approved this year the case would be reviewed again next year. The director advised the board to communicate with the Technical School Board to ascertain whether the two schools could„not combine with the expenses of a joint hostel and thus save expense. (Mr. Mac Diarmid considered that the school’s hostel should be primarily for High School girls but that if there was any room the Technical girls should be offered the use of the hostel. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman and Mr. Hammond was appointed to meet a sub-committee of ■the Technical 'Board and discuss the question.
The Education Board’s architect notified that the emergency fire door ■would be placed in the school assembly hall during the long vacation. It was decided that the architect and the principal should confer to see what, maintenance and other work was required at the school during the summer vacations.
Applications, are to be called for a part time commercial .teacher to take the place of Miss N. E. Callis, who tendered her resignation.
