WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL. MR. J. A. SAMPSON ELECTED. ■Following the death of Mr. William Newell, Mr. J. A. Sampson was appointed chairman of the Waikato County Council at a meeting of the council yesterday. ■Mr. T. H. Henderson was also nominated, but on aocount of pressure of other business he declined the position. , ,
' Mr. Sampson, who is the- representative ' of the Whangamarino Riding, has been a member of the council since May, 1925. For many years he was the, chairman of the Whangamarino Road ’Board 'and held the two positions until the merger of tfie road board with .the county council In 1928. ‘
