SUCCESSFUL LADIES’ NIGHT. FINE MUSICAL PROGRAMME. Proving one of the most successful functions of the year, llie second ladies’ night of the Hamilton Orphans’ Club’s season was held in the Winter Show Ho!! on Saturday evening. A large gathering was treated to an excellent. programme. Vice-president W. A. Schultz, presided. Excellent work was done by the orchestra, under the baton of Mr J. T. Battersby, in presenting two numbers, while community singing led by Mr E. 11. Quill, added considerably to the enjoyment of the evening. A farcical sketch, "The Ghost in the Pawnshop,’’ was, in its well sustained 'characters and topical aiusions, a source of merriment, the three central figures being portrayed by'.Messrs E. If. Quill, W. Fenton and P. Evans. The following individual items were also presented: Songs. Mrs C. F. O’Connor, Miss I. Sutherland, and Messrs G. H. Magill and B. Hick ford (Wellington) : violin solos. Mr R. Crompton; elocution, Miss Phyllis Torpy; humour, Mr Ilex Yales (Auckland). The accompaniments were played by Miss Mavis Jones- and Mr J. T. Battersby. The chairman announced Iha I arrangements had been made Tor members of the Hamilton Club lo visit the Morrlnsvillc Club on Ihe occasion of its ladies’ night on Tuesday.
