BICYCLE “BORROWED.”
THEFT FROM NEIGHBOUR. YOUNG MAN CHARGED. Charges of converting a bicycle, the property of Charles Percy Viggers, to his own use at Okoroire, attempting to convert the bicycle, stealing 9/6 in money from Leonard Joseph Butler, at Okoroire, and failing to comply with the terms.'Of his probation were preferred against Norman Gibson [logwood (22), labourer, in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, before Mr F. W. Platts, S.AI., to-day. The accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Power said the accused was released on two years’ probation at Morrinsville last year. On April 17 this year he went to Okoroire to get employment. On September 6 he removed a bicycle from a neighbour’s shed to go to Malamata and later returned the machine. He was caught attempting to remove the bicycle again. He also admitted entering the house of a neighbour, whom lie knew was away from home, and stealing 9/6 from a cash-box.
The Senior-Sergeant referred to another occasion when the accused “borrowed” a motor truck to go to a dance at, Alatamala. In order to escape detection when removing the truck lie harnessed a horse to the vehicle for some distance. Mr Platts observed that the accused's record was not a bad one and there were few criminal elements in the offences. He seemed lo have been more foolish than criminal. If lie were brought before the Court again the present, records would be reproduced and he would he sent lo gaol. llogwood was convicted and discharged, His Worship pointing out that lie was still under the supervision of tlie probation officer. He was ordered to make restitution of 9s 6d.
