A definite statement that It is not the intention of the Government to amend the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. in order to give unions the right to approach the Arbitration Court for a general order to increase wages, was ina'de 10-day by the Prime Minister. “I have already expressed the view that It Is the duty of those Arms In a position to do so to Inoroaso wagos,” said Mr Forbes, “and 1 notice that one firm lias already moved. No rtouht otlirrs will follow. At the same time there are many private firms not yet in a position to improve wages, and to compel them to do so by a genera] order of the Court would tie most unfair. The Government tins no intention of doing that.''
