HINDENBURG’S BURIAL.
A GREAT PAGEANT. IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY. HITLER’S ORATION. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. CopvHßT.t. BERLIN, Aug. 7. With characteristic military precision the cortege in the funeral of the late Marshal von Hindenburg arrived at Tannenberg, from-Berlin, just as dawn was breaking and proceeded to the National Memorial. The service was begun at 11 a.m. and a description was broadcast in four languages. All sections of the forces lllled the courtyard. The Protestant chaplain’s address preceded Herr Hitler’s oration. The former was based on a text chosen by the late President from Revelation ii., 10; Pear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be tnou .faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. The coilln will remain in the Hindenburg Tower for a fortnight, during which the public will pay homage. It will then be permanently interred in the War Lords’ Tower. LONDON, Aug. 7. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that, in the course of a speech delivered over the coffin of the late Marshal von Hindenburg at Tannenberg, Herr Hitler said: “Not for a century will it be necessary for Germany again to defend her honour. Never in the centuries were soldiers braver than ours.’’ The speech was - the culmination of a solemn pageant unsurpassed for colour or military splendour since the war.
As Herr 'Hitler concluded tils speech with the words: “Our War Lord has entered Valhalla,’; a salute of 101 guns was begun.
The late President’s body was carried on the shoulders of 10 soldiers, Hanked by admirals and generals, and borne into the lllndenburg Tower. Sentries presented arms as it vanished inside the dark entrance.
. Probably since the death of Oueen Victoria no head of a State lias been paid a greater tribute of honour and gratitude.
