SCHOOL EXTENSIONS.

TECHNICAL COLLEGE. ADDITIONS TO BUILDINGS. ASSEMBLY HALL COMPLETED. Further steps towards tiie solution of the problems of inadequate accommodation at the Hamilton Technical College were made by the Board of Managers last evening. The chairman, Mr S. B. Sims, presided, while also present were Mrs S. B. Sims' and Messrs T. H. Henderson, F. A. Snell, B. H. Andrews, J. Treloar, W. Rothwell, C. J. Champness, F. B. Hall, C. Nisbet and the principal (Mr W. Fraser). Advice was received that seven tenders, ranging in price from £5660 to £6546 had been received for the extension of the Anglesea 'block, the contract having been let by the Education Department to the lowest tenderer, Mr J. R. McKinnon, of Hamilton, at a figure of £5660. The specifications provide for the construction of a modern electrical laboratory, to replace the present obsolete structure in the old block, a general science laboratory and out office accommodation for the 'boys. The preliminary work on the site has already been put in hand by the contractor and steady progress is being made in the excavation, preceding the actual construction.

With the erection of the assembly hall completed, a contract for the furnishing of wooden seating was let to Mr D. A. Miller, of Hamilton, whose tender of £137 was the lowest of the five received. Members spoke culogistically of the handsome and very suitable building that had been erected and it was resolved to congratulate the contractor, Mr J. R. McKinnon, for his work. Thanks were also expressed to Mr Champness, who had acted as supervisor of the building operations.

The provision of 10 tennis courts and a pavilion was shown on a plan of the recently acquired playing area in Collingwood Street, prepared by Mr Sims, and it was resolved to proceed immediately with the. work of clearing and levelling the site. The chairman, the principal and Mr Champness were appointed .a committee to take charge of the project.
