IMPROVE THE RABBIT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The suggestion put forward by ‘‘Look Ahead" in your issue to-day Is well worth pondering. There is no doubt that the rabbit is with us for aye, and that being so we should endeavour to make the best of the situation and turn tlie pest to profit. The rosy picture drawn by “Look Ahead,” whereby we can grow giant carcases by judicious crossing, and at the same time not increase the weight of offal, should be a profitable field for rcsearcji, and it is not improbable that in years to come, instead of condemning and cursing the individual who first imported a few rodents for sporting purposes, we will ■be hailing him as a benefactor who, unwittingly, perhaps, laid the foundation of an industry which may materially assist in the liquidation of our national debt.
There . is another aspect of the question which “Look Ahead” did not stress, and that is the pelt. I understand that the cross suggested would improve the fur and also the size of the skins, thus making them more valuable from the viewpoint of the furrier. —I am, etc.,
