MUSICAL ACTIVITIES.
Hamilton Singer at Auckland. The Auckland Choral Society sang “ Hiawatha ” on Thursday night. Of Mr J. T. Battersby, of Hamilton, who sang the tenor solos, the Auckland Herald says: “Mr Battersby did not fail to grasp the choice opportunities presented by “ Onaway; Awake Beloved I” and he was equally pleasing in other passages. Extra Concerts In Dunedin. Poulshnoff, pianist, and Horace Stevens, bass-baritone, gave two extra concerts in Dunedin this week. "The Rose Malden” at Hamilton. The male soloists have now been appointed for the forthcoming performance of “ The Rose Maiden" by the Hamilton Philharmonic Choir. They are:—Tenor, Mr. J. T. Battersby; baritone, Mr. Leo Foster. With these splendid singers, Mrs. Myra Booth (soprano) and Mrs. lan Stuart (contralto) as the feminine soloists, and the choristers doing good work under the baton of Mrs. H. G. Ross, “ The Rose Maiden ” should he a very successful and enjoyable production. A Loss of £6O. The recent production of “ Carmen by the Opera Club in Dunedin resulted In a loss of approximately £OO. The Club was unfortunate in striking* appalling weather, the city being practically snow-bound during the season. Famous Irish Tenor's Ferocious Dog. John McCormick, Irish tenor, who is now 7 in Africa hunting lions, has a “man-eating dog" at his home in Hollywood, according to a suit for £2050 damages filed by Mrs. Sarah Ewart, aged' 65. Mrs. Ewart asserts a business errand took her to McCormick’s residence and she was attacked and bitten toy the “man-eating dog.”
