There was a pleasant ceremony at the New Zealand office when 'Sir James Parr in the presence of a number ol leading New Zealanders, on behalf of the Nelson fruitgrowers, presented the season’s millionth case of apples shipped from Nelson to Lord Rutherford, whom lie described as “ Nelson’s most distinguished son." Lord Rutherford, in acknowledging the gift, described the early struggles of the Nelson fruitgrowers against soil troubles and Insect pests, and paid a warm tribute to the Cawthron Institute and Professor Easterfleld, whose efforts had resulted in Nelson growing the finest apples and provided a splendid example of the good effects of applying science to agriculture. Lord Rutherford is sending the lid of the case to a Nelson boy, who forwarded 5s requesting a part of the case.
