WOMEN’S DIVISION.

ELSTOW BRANCH. The May meeting of the Elstow branch of the W.D.F.U. was very well attended. Miss N. McCormick presided. The report of the provincial council meeting was read and discussed.

It was decided to join with the Ngarua and Te Aroha branches in promoting a public lecture in Te Aroha on the League of Nations, the date to be arranged to suit the lecturer, who would be in the Paeroa district soon. A vote of thanks was carried to Mrs Stembridge and Miss McCormick for providing the milk and tea last year. The next monthly meeting will be held in the evening and will lake the form of a “Family Evening.” A roll call, “Optimistic Quotations,” brightened up the meeting considerably. Mrs B. Wright gave a very interesting and helpful demonstration on mocassin making, and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. A competition for the best darned sock was won by Mrs F. Flowerday and Miss E. Strange (10 points), with Mrs ißurl} (9J ipoints) second. Another competition for shortbread was won by Mrs F. M. Strange and Mrs Flowerday, and Mrs May, Airs Priest and Mrs Stembridge (9 points), second. There were nino entries in each class.
