RUGBY FOOTBALL.

MATCH ON MONDAY. AUCKLAND v. WAIKATO. EXCITING GAME PROMISED. Providing the weather is favourable one of tlie best games yet seen on Rugby Park should be witnessed on Monday next when the annual match between the representatives of the Waikato and Auckland Rugby Unions will be played. This annual fixture always arouses a great deal of interest among Rugby enthusiasts and this year’s match will be no exception. In fact, owing to the large number of representative matches that will be played in Hamilton this year, this, the first game of tlie season will hold more interest than usual.

The improvement in the standard of football this year has not onlyJjeen confined to Hamilton but lias been general throughout Hie Waikato, and as a result a close and exciting game should result. There is usually little difference between the two teams and Waikato supporters are confident of their team’s success this year. The Auckland team .looks- fairly strong, particularly in the forwards, who comprise Bush (formerly fullback for New Zealand), McLean (Wellington and All Black player), Knight (who returns to representative football after an absence of three seasons), Peacocke (who played for North Auckland for two seasons) and Solomon (All Black player). In the backs, Gaugliey and Corner have won the All Black Jersey, while Ileazlewood has played for both South and North Islands. Ilaslam, Wales, and Kedgleyi have also represented Auckland. The Waikato team is a particularly strong one. The backs are fast and heavy and all have represented Waikato before. The return of W. R. Allen bn the wing, adds strength to the team- The forwards are also well known players who have represented Waikato on previous occasions. One of the North Island selectors, Mr V. R. Meredith, will visit Hamilton to see the match which will commence at 2.30 p.m. The teams will be: — T Waikato. Fullback: M. Davies (Tauplri). Three-quarters: D'. -J. Oliver (Waipa), A. J.
