VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY. AT JUDGE’S DIRECTION. JURY CRITICISES STATE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Thursday. After a hearing extending over two lays Mr. Justice Blair directed the |ury to return a verdict of not guilty !n the cases in which -Rang! Royal and Edward Biddle were charged with falsifying wages sheets connected with the Ruatc-ki ' Land- Development Scheme. His ’Honour held that the defence had given complete answer to the allegations. The jury added a rider stating that the irregularity that had occurred could have been satisfactorily straightened out by the Audit Department and the department in charge of the work without Royal and Biddle being put to the worry and expense of being brought before the Court.
