The Dally Telegraph says that a Soviet organisation in London is buying Australian and Argentine wheat for shipment to Vladivostock. Two Australian and one Argentine cargoes, totalling 22,500 tons have already been brought and ships chart j cred for them. Further buying is ex- . pected. Russia’s sudden appearance l as a buyer is believed to be due to widespread crop failures. It also is probable that wheat consumption in the Vladivostock area .has abnormally Increased. owing to the maintenance of troops there because of Russo-Japan-ese tension. Sellers of wheat cargoes have raised their; limits by Is Od and parcels are is to is 6d dearer. Plates are sixpence up. The Daily Telegraph’s Moscow correspondent says a decree announcing a general rise in the price of bread admits for the first time that the severe' drought spoilt a part of the southern grain belt.
