FOLK DANCING.

SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION. HIGH PRAISE FROM JUDGE. The growth and popularity of school folk dancing in tlie Waikato was well 'illustrated when the competitions in this fascinating pas-time were held at the Concert Hall at the Winter Show to-day. "It was the best folk dancing I have seen in the Auckland province," commented Miss Daphne .'Knight, of Auckland, who judged the dancing. "For the most part there was splendid time and rhythm and the groups were well balanced. The children were attractively uniformed, the boys playing an extremely able part, which is unusual.’’ Miss -Knight said. Six -groups participated, -comprising about 70 children. Results are as follows; Senior division: Hamilton West, 7-i points, 1; Frankton, G 8 points, 2; Hamilton East, GG points, 0. B section; Hamilton West, 73 points, 1; Frankton, 70 points, 2. C section; Frankton, 75 points, 1; Hamilton West, 71 ■ points, 2; Alanawaru, G 8 points, 3.

TO-NIGHT’S COMPETITIONS. The music, elocution, dancing and play-reading competitions will be continued this evening, commencing al G. 1 5 with Iho Shakespearean recital for men, scene from “ Henry VIII." There will also he soprano solo, "Blackbird's Song": contralto solo, “Still as Iho Night"; song for boys, own selection. The play-rending contest will no continued, the Hamilton IMayreaders and tlie Impromptu Club taking the -stage.
