AUCKLAND MEETING

SEMI-FINAL GALLOP. CADLAND’S BRIGHT SIX. MAKE UP IMPRESSES. (B.T. —Special to Times). AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Beautiful weather prevailed for the semi-final gallops at Ellerslie this morning. The No. i grass track, with the poles 10 feet out, was in use for fast work. Although the going was holding it was better than it has been for the last couple of weeks. The hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper. The steeplechase course was also open. On No. 1 grass Horowhenua and Versant covered six furlongs in 1.20 3-5, the first three in 39 3-'ssecs. They were about on terms at the finish though Versant had much the worst of the weights. Imamint and Karangapai, after running the first two furlongs In 25 3-5 secs, got to the end of five furlongs In 1.5 l-s;sec. Imamint pleased most. Gargen covered a round in 2.3 3-5 sees, the last half-mile taking 56 3-5 secs. The Cornwall Handicap candidates, Gay Broney and Hushing, were sent over a round in 1.56 i-ssecs. They traversed the last six furlongs in 1.20 3-ssecs, and the final half-mile in 54 2.-ssecs. There was not much between them at the finish, though Gay Broney impressed most.

Best of the Morning. Cadland registered 1.19 3-ssecs for six furlongs, the best of the mornIn©. Copyist ran his last five furlongs in 1.10 3-5 and could have done better. Lord Val, Prince Colossus, Pango and Catoma finished in that order at, the conclusion of a round in 1.54 3-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5, and the final half-mile in 53 2-ss. Lt was a first-class trial and Lord Vat’s effort shows he is about at his best again. Rebel Star and Scarlet Rambler were not extended over six furlongs ill 1.2 4-5. King Musk beat Jalldy Karo over five furlongs in 1.3, the first two furlongs in 26 3-ss. Monanui got to the end of half-a-mile in sis, doing her work attractively. Black' Songster and Conference were on terms at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. Thespis traversed a round in 2.i 3-5. He was not doing his best at any part of it. Ornamental Beats Baroscope. 'Ornamental was 100 good for Baroscope over a round in 1.57 1-5. Billy Boy was allotted a similar task which he completed in 2.4 i-5. Solomon and Chief Cook ran five furlongs in 1.5 i-5. Solomon, who was kicked up at the finish, was a shade in front.

The best effort over half-a-mile was registered hy British Columbia and Bonny Gay, the pair covering Hie distance in 50 4-ss. They were on terms aL llic finish, belli shaping nicely.

Count Lendorff was sent over four hurdles on the course proper and got through bis task in a satisfactory manner.

Silent Bill, Hauwai and Neil were sent over five hurdles. All fenced safely and 11:ere was not much between them at Hie finish. Palm. Diversion and Hounslow were associated over five hurdles, Delrain joining in al Hie second fence Diversion got a break early and wis about ten lengths in front' along the hack, but others were almost up whh her al llic last fence. Diversion gave a good display, white Hounslo.v also fenced in good style. Pahu covered more ground than llic others and was staying on best at the finish, lie also gave a first-class jumping display. Fino Schooling Bout. Make Up. Snow Prince, Town Deadly, Galaris, Gallaniarl and Tudor were sent over a round of Hie steeplechase course, giving a very line display of jumping. They finished as named. Make Up’s showing was very impressive and be bad charge practically all Ilie way. Tin Lap beat Lagoon toy a neck over six furlongs in 1.16 2-'5. Gay Rose finished slightly In front of Royal Secret at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Record Flight had a neck advantage over Engi at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.32 i-5. Val Watch and Mungatoon were associated in a mile gallop, the former scoring by a neck in 1.44. King’s Archer (Tremain) ran a mile alone in 1.44 2-5. Miss Lorraine skipped over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. ' AT TE AWAMUTU. ; FINAL GALLOPS. PROTOMINT OVER SEVEN, (Special to Times). TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. For the final gallops at Tc Awamulu this morning' the course proper was available with the first set of flags 12 feet out. Ollier fast work was done on the outside of the track where the (lags were some 30 feel out from the rails. The going was dead and no particularly brilliant times were recorded. The honours of the morning went to Protomint .and Solarium. On the course proper (12 feet out) Solarium, Protomint .and Trishna were to have gone seven furlongs, but Protomint refused lo move and took no part in the trial. Solarium had several lengths break on Trishna after covering a furlong, aVid holding his advantage, was finishing on solidly lo clock 1.33 1-5 for the distance. Protomint Pleases. Protomint was afterwards hopped away from the half-mile barrier in company with Sweet Rose. After covering the first half-mile, in 51js Protomint went on alone to complete seven furlongs in 1.33 A. Prtotomint . lias only to go away correctly to have excellent prospects in the Corn--1 wall. He is lo have Hie services of S. J. Gimmick.

Loombinalion appeared to bo working slightly better than Kanapa throughout their six furlongs trial completed in 1.20 2-5. Tuahcahe was not extended lo complete a similar task in 1.20, llic last five furlongs in 1.6. Thirty feel out from Hic rails Rulahie was. sprinted half-a-mile which ho covered pleasingly in s*is. Safe Rank, who lias been given another chance lo redeem himself, was under pressure to run home from the three furlong peg in 395. H. Horne has been engaged to ride L’Allegro, Tuahcahe and ’Loombination at the Auckland meeting. G. Paul will leave on Thursday with Kanapa and Trishna.
