CHARGE OF VAGRANCY.

YOUNG MAN IMPRISONED, LIST OF PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS. Charged with being an idle, and disorderly person with no lawful means of support, Alexander -MeCuisli, aged 2G years, of no fixed abode, appeared before .Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in ttie 1 lamilton Magistrate's Court this morning. He pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson stated that the defendant bad been in Hamilton for about ten days, frequenting the hotels. Last Saturday Constable G. F. Mclv’cnzie had his attention drawn to ttie defendant, who had attached himself to a man from the country who was before the court for drunkenness and possessed a large sum of money. Last evening McCuish was seen by Constable McKenzie emerging from an hotel. When questioned, the defendant gave an excuse that he entered the hotel to tlnd a convenience. He gave a false name to the constable. The Detective-Sergeant added that McCuish came from Timaru and. was the type of man not wanted in Hamilton.' He had a list of previous convictions for theft, false pretences, breaking and entering, forgery rtind failure to pay maintenance for an illegitimate child. He had no money and .said he had been working until a fortnight ago. The reason why he had used a false name was to avoid further arrest for default of maintenance. Defendant was convicted and sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment, with hard labour.
