CONDITIONS IN SPAIN.
READY FOR ANYTHING
GOVERNMENT CONFIDENT.
NATION BEHIND THE REPUBLIC. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. MADRID, March 12. The Premier, Senor Lerroux, interviewed on Sunday evening, said the Government was strong enqugh to deal with any emergency. There was no danger of revolution, the immense mass of the nation solidly hacking the Republic. The Madrid correspondent of the Times says the tension now T appears to have eased. The news of the declaration of a general strike fixed for midnight, which was announced by wireless from London, caused surprise and is officially denied.
There is now a possibility that the builders' strike, in which 50,000 have been rendered idle, may be settled. The declaration of the printers’ strike has been postponed until to-morrow.

It is semi-officially stated that it is entirely false to say that a general strike has been declared, but the existing conflicts are In the way of a normal solution.
The Minister of the Interior declares that the conditions throughout the country are normal.
Despite this announcement, intense uneasiness prevails. It is believed that the Government is ready to declare martial law.
The tension has been increased by the knowledge that news is being censored by the authorities.

Policemen replaced the striking newsboys and sold tlic Official Gazetta at the street corners. It was tlie only paper published. Entertainments and transport are normal, except for the stoning of a few trains. Armed strikers looted a country store and youths damaged a Catholic college. Civic guards frustrated attempts to burn it. Segovia and Malaga arc the only towns where the strike is complete.
