RETURN TO DUNEDIN
gales and mountainous seas
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. After 14 days of gales, hurricanes and mountainous seas that broke ove her decks like avalanches, the Byrcf supply ship, Bear of Oakland, arri ' e at Port Chamlers from the Antarctic Sis afternoon, looking little the worse for her rough handling, except for the loss of her bowsprit, which was snapped off while the vessel was forcing her way through the pack ice in the Bay of Wales. The Bear of Oakland established contact with the Discovery 11.. which loft Dunedin early in February with a doctor and stores, about February 21 or 2*2, and Hie doctor and stores were transferred to the Bear of Oakland, which then returned to the Bay of Whales. The bay was frozen in and the vessel hal difficulty In getting In and greater difficulty in getting out. The temperature was 30 degrees below zero for 50 miles north of the barile,. The camping party in the Bay of Whales is reported to be in the best of health and spirits. The Bear of Oakland will be laid up H port Chalmers for the winter.
