WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
GORDONTON BRANCH. The annual meeting, held recently, was well attended. The report read •by the secretary, Mrs Fatillc, was well received. 'The year had been ail extended one, and despile Hie depression had been happy and prosperous. During llm year the bran Mi had bade farewell to their president, .Mrs Fow, who was a zealous and keen member. The vacancy was well filled by Mrs P. Thomsen, vice-president. Nine new members were enrolled and two resignations received.
Much pleasure had been derived by members of the gardening circle, due largely to the keenness of Mrs Bridgman, convenor. Unforlunnlely the arts and crafts circle disbanded. A committee for visiting the sick was formed but fortunately they had little to do. During the winter months a special effort was made to relieve cases of distress.
During tlie year the sales table did brisk business, and much credit is due to Mesdames It. Williamson and W. Dalheth for their able management. The competitions held during the year resulted: Mrs W. Carswell first, and Mrs 1). Sainsbury second. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £7 Is 2d.
The election of new officers resulted: President, Mrs R. Young; committee, Mesdames F. Williamson, J. Sharp, W. Carswell, J. Graham, A. Procter, Edwards, P. Thomsen and Miss R. Brigdman. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officials, and best wishes extended to the incoming ones.
A competition (best vase of flowers) was held during the afternoon, .'lll's Bridgman being placed first and Mrs D. Sainsbury second.
