LINGERIE LORE
THE NEW QUILTING. Lingerie which looks as though It were stencilled in the palest pastel tints and then quilted is attractive and new for tho needlewoman to copy (states an exchange.) Actually the pastel shades are the reflection of an interlining. This Is how it Is. done. The garment, probably a dressing-gown, is made in a transparent material, such as georgette, and interlined with crepe de chine. A bold design is lightly traced on the georgette, and an exact copy cut out on a brightly coloured, fairly ■heavy material, which is then tacked into place as an interlining. The quilting follows the edge of the design, and gives a most attractive result, which is infinitely inspiring to the home dressmaker. Besides dress-ing-gowns and jackets, cushion covers are being worked In this way. As with furnishing fabrlos, quilt -
ing is the most fashionable way of treating lingerie. An alternative to the design just described is Italian quilting, in which all lines are double and tho material between them raised by a narrow strand of cotton wool or thick embroidery wool, which is far less trouble and just as effective. Dres-sing-gowns and jackets mado of washing satin or sonic such material of medium weight and thickness are both, warm and attractive.
