OTAGO V. SOUTHLAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)’ DUNEDIN, Friday. ' The first interprovincial cricket match of the season was commenced to-day, when Otago met Southland. Neither Dickinson nor Smith was available for Otago. Southland batted first and made 162 runs (Hallamore 48, Spence 36,‘ MoAra 21, Purdue 21), Otago had compiled 344 for five wickets at the close of play (Badcock 82 not out, Uttley 67, Talbot 69, Cox 58, Constable 28 not out, Elmes 26).
HAWKE CUP. RANGITIKEI BEATS WANGANUI. , MARTON, Friday. The Rangitikei cricket representatives earned the right to challenge Nelson for the Hawke Cup by defeating Wanganui to-day in the elimination match with three wickets in hand. TO-DAY’S PLAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. The Otago-Southland cricket matcS was resumed this morning on a good wicket. Otago declared at yesterday’s score five wickets for 344 against Southland’s 162. The latter commenced their second Innings needing 182 to avert an Innings defeat. After an hour’s play' Southland had lost one wicket for 50. At the luncheon adjournment Southland had lost eight wickets for 163.
