After a 'stormy sitting of nearly 30 hours the House of Representatives agreed to a Bill Imposing a sales tax of £.4 os per ton on flour. Seven Government supporters voted with the Opposition, but the Ministry had the solid support of the Country Party.

The House of Representatives passed the Bill imposing a sales lax of £4 5s per ton on flour through all its stages. In the Senate Mr A. O. Badman (South Australia) said that in some of the States bakers would make an extra farthing on the 21b loaf if the price of bread was raised one penny, and the bakers in all the States except New South Wales would make £300,000 additional profit. SYDNEY, Dec. 8. The Housewives’ Association Is organising a boycott of bakers In the emergency if bread prices are increased. The housewives 1 leader states that inquiries among bakers show that they can make a profit at 4d a loaf over the counter.
