In December, 1931, Madge Elliott and Cyril llitchard returned to Australia under the J. C. Williamson banner for a sixteen weeks’ season. On the eve of singing to her Australian audiences Dame Clara Butt again has shown her interest in youth and in song (says a Sydney paper). “I was so pleased," she said, “when I read of the success of the first, City of Sydney Eisteddfod. I konw that in Australia there are many voices of fine quality and teachers of high ability. I am confident that the Eisteddfod will have a great educational value. “It will give me a very real pleasure to assist in this movement," she concluded, “and l have arranged to present a special challenge trophy for contralto voices, to he competed for in the next City of Sydney Eistedd--1 Xod.”
