“ The Messiah,” Next Week. At St. Paul’s Church on Tuesday night “ The Messiah" will be sung by an augmented choir, with Mr Owen Jensen as conductor.
Miss Laura Stone, of Auckland, formerly of Hamilton, a very popular singer, will .take the oontralto solos. The other soloists will be: — Soprano, Miss Gwenda Weir, of Auckland; tenor, Mr J. T. Battersby; bass, Mr W. B.'L. Williams. Miss Rose Findlay will be at the organ, and Mr Cyril Leak at the piano. Hamiltonians at Auokland.
A performance of “The Messiah” Is to be given to-morrow night by the choir of the Pitt Street Methodist Church, Auckland, under the conduotorship of Mr. Albert Bryant, formerly of Hamilton.
The soloists will be: Gladys Payne (soprano), Alys Moncur (oontralto), Harry Blakeley (tenor), and W. B. L. Williams, of Hamilton (bass). The organist will be Mr. W. Emerson.
Ex-Hamilton Singer at Wellington. Of Mr Edwin Dennis’ performance in “The Messiah" this week a Wellington paper said:—
“Mr Dennis was more than adequate for his part and, without departure from traditional lines, Invested personality and feeling Into all ■that he sang."
Musical Moments. Brahms’s oratorla, “The German Requiem,” was sung by the Cathedral Choir at Christchurch, under Dr. Bradshaw’s direction on Thursday.
George Elhvood, the Wellington 'cellist, has booked a passage to England by the Rotorua, leaving on December 15,
Miss Norah Whlneray, formerly of Hamilton, presented her pupils In a recital of musio, song and story at Auckland on Wednesday night. The proceeds will go towards a Christmas tree for children of the Methodist City Mission.
