PAGEANT AT RUKUHIA. A SPECTACULAR STUNT. For a few moments tragedy appeared to have overtaken a mock battle staged between Flight-Lieutenant Allan and Pilot officer R. Kirkup at the Rukuhia pageant this afternoon, when at the conclusion of the “battle” Flight-Lieutenant Allan was “shot” down in flames—a fitting climax to the event. Helped by the announcer over the Public Address System, a portion of the audience was under the impression that Allan' had really been “shot” down when he dived down behind the troes and into a gully with black sulphurous "smoke” pouring from his ’plan*. Soveral hundreds rushed towards the spot, members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and an ambulance included, but great was the astonishment to some and relief to others when Allan dived out of the clouds from behind the crowd and circled low overhead. Spectacular stunting by FlightLioutenant Allan and Squadvon-Laadar; McGregor and many more passenger flights concluded the programme. The pageant was an outstanding success from every point of view and the association is to be congratulated on the high standard attained.
