SPIRIT MESSAGES
Penetrating the Spirit World Without The Aid of Mediums.
A theory that messages from spirits can be obtained by the 'human mind penetrating into other fields of existence without another spirit acting as intermediary was Outlined to the Society for Psychical Research in London by the Hon Mrs Alfred Lyttelton, in her presidential-address.
"We know that many human beings have mental powers -which extend beyond their senses ahd thqir consciousness," she said. “ Sometimes those powers seem to bring us tidings from another field' of ’existence, and Spiritualists believe that such communications come from spirits. “We are all aware of the deceptions and confusions which obscure this question. Some of them disappear if the hypothesis that in all communications a spirit* takes possession of a living organism is replaced by the hypothesis that we ourselves oan sdmetimep penetrate another field of existence and gather information. “ Tilts hypothesis conforms to the beliefs -of religion and the Intuition of genius.
Two Lives Theory. .t, “ I am inclined to believe that we live not only in the narrow confines of bur own physical body, but also have a life outside it, a life of which we are in the main unconscious. " In regard to communication with t'he dead I prefer to think that the supqr-consctous part qf a living mind may establish contact with another plane >of being, ratheT than that rtiscarnate spirits visit the plane on which we live.!’ Narrating somo of her experiences. Mrs Lyttelton said that slip, was once very anxious over a friend’s illness, and 'obtained a symbolic picture which foretold recovery. She saw a pail of water tipped up and slowly emptying, ns though it symbolised life slipping away, until barely an incli was left at the bottom. Then, with a sudden jerk, the pail became upright again and rapidly refilled. Soon afterwards she heard that her friend was well again. ■oaav
