FATAL GUN BATTLE.

PATROL v. SMUGGLERS. FIERCE FIGHT IN TEXAS. THREE OFFICIALS KILLED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Deo. 8, 12.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 7. An El Paso (Texas) message states that three men, including a Government inspector, were killed and another wounded in a gun battle between a United States border patrol and liquor smugglers early to-day. The fight started when the inspectors challenged 16 men who waded the Rio Grande with liquor from the Mexican side. When reacning the shore the officers leaped out with drawn guns and a blaze of gunfire met them.

This is the second rum battle recorded recently. On the former occasion one border patrolman was slain.
