REPLY TO FRUIT-GROWER,
LANCASHIRE MAN’S TRIBUTE. EACH APPLE GOOD. Whilst engaged in packing delicious apples in an orchard during last April when the export season was at its height, a Hawke’s Bay orchardlst enclosed a note in one of the cases, which has produced the following reply which is dated July 21, 1933, and written from Southport In Lanca-
shire : “In your note you ask for particu-
lars as to conditions, price, etc. Well, here they are. That box of apples finished its long journey on the fair- | ground of a seaside resort, where fruit ! is only sold in the Summer. I have worked at my present occupation for the last four seasons and I can honestly say that I don’t think I have seen a better case in all that time. Every apple was in good condition and well packed. Maybe you will think I am writing this giving you a false Impression as to condition. Well, you can believe mo when 1 say that every word is true. It cost us IDs fid, a price, considered pretty fair at our end for such an apple. I dare say It will surprise you, but there are the costs of transport, carriage and all the fruit merchants between us.” The letter is signed “Edward Stoker.”
