“THE KIDDIES’ CABARET.”
MISS BETTY SYERS’ PUPILS. A SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENT. “ The Kiddies’ Cabaret ” was staged very successfully at the Civic Theatre last night by Miss Betty Syers and her pupils. The programme was varied, and excellent work was done, with the result that the audience found the entertainment very enjoyable. A feature of the performance was J.he beautiful frocking. Miss Betty Syers danced gracefully in the Garden scene and in Waltz Variations (in the latter‘she was partnered very capably by Mr P. A. Syers), and led the ballet in gay Gipsy and tap dances. Her performance was much admired. The tiny tots and intermediate ballet were seen in a series of solo and concerted items, as follows:—In the Classroom (exercises), pupils; The Kiddies’ Cabaret, acrobatic troupe; Maids of the Zuyder Zee, Nola Davidson and Delsie Lang; Eighteenth Century (gavotte), Della Lampluga; Fluffy Chicks, tiny tot ballet; Irish jig, Eilesn Moriarty; Hoofing Ballet, intermediate ballet, 1 soloist 'Margaret Scrimshaw; Valse Blue, Delsie Lang; Rainbow Fairies, tiny tot ballet; Waltz Clog, Eunice Woodhams; Sailor’s Hornpipe, Intermediate ballet; HootchyKootchie (ragtime),.Delia Lamplugh; Dancing Dolls, tiny tot ballet; Tapping Rhythm, Babs Moreland, Eileen Moriarty, Betty Syers, Joyce Tomlinson; Playtime Frolics, intermediate ballet; Tiny Tots’ Solo Group, Toy Soldier, (Bettie Blackie), Butterfly (Marlon Lamplugh), Miss 1934 (Anita Paice), Elf (Joan Terry.) ; Garden Scene, Dance of Nymphs (Intermediate Ballet), The Water Sprite (Paddy Hope), The Statue (Betty Syers), Rendezvous Ensemble, Statuettes (Delsie Lang and Nola Davidson) ; “ Tally Ho,” Joan Thomas; India Rubber Dolls, Margaret Scrimshaw and Della Lamplugh; Fling, Delsie Lang; Steps and Styles, Joyce Tomlinson; Plantation Ensemble, Coons (Betty Cramp, Daphne Phipps, Norma Scrimshaw, Jean Stuart), soloist Lynette Holloway; Frivolity Duo, Nola Davidson and Delsie Lang; Dance Gracieuse, Della Lamplugh; Gipsies Wild, Intermediate Ballet; Radiant Steps, Babs Moreland; Halloween Ensemble, Intermediate Ballet, soloist Margaret Scrimshaw; Finale, “ Home,” Company. The ballets comprised Tiny tots: Betty Blackie, Marion Lamplugh, Anita Paice, Joan Terry. Intermediate: Betty Cramp, Nola Davidson, Pat Hawken, Maysie Hayes, Lynette Holloway, Paddy Hope, Della Lamplugh, Delsie Lang, Daphne Phipps, Ethel Pye, Laurace Pye, Margaret Scrimshaw, Norma Scrimshaw’, Jean Stuart, Joan Thomas, Gw’en Tremayne, Eunice Woodhams.
Miss Syers had the assistance of Mrs Myra ‘Booth, who sang “ Rendezvous ” delightfully; Miss Genesta Hamilton, whose sweet voice was heard to advantage in “Little Damozel"; Mrs Zelda Fahey, who recited “The Old Story” effectively; and Mr E. H. Quill, who led the ensemble in “ The Kiddies’ Cabaret ” and “ Home.” Great assistance was given by a strong orohestra, conducted by Mr Harold Piper.
