DISPUTE OVER POWER, TWENTY-FIVE MEN IDLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)' \ THAMES, Wednesday. The Kuranui Golden Hills! Ltd* low-grade ore treatment plant, the first in the Dominion, has been closed as a result of a dispute with, the Thames Valley Power Board regarding the payment of the power-line rental. The matter had been twice previously adjusted, the Minister of Mines on the last occasion guaranteeing a month’s payment pending the. Investigation. Yesterday the (Borough Commissioner, Mr C. L. 'Grange, reoeived a! telegram from the board notifying the expiration of the Minister’s guarantee and that the borough would he held responsible for the further powe? supply. The Commissioner advised ths managing director at Kuranui, Mr R* M. Aitken, who stated that the company was willing to pay the amount when it was due, but was sick of humbug, and had decided to close the plant down, the tables being dismantled and the motors removed. The company has been assisted ini the supply of power by the Public Works Department and labour subsidised by the Unemployment Board. About 25 men were rendered idle.
