The Herald states that Mr Alfred Hill, the New Zealander, will pfobably be the new director of the State Gonservatoridm of Music. Applications have been received from all parts of the world, but it is understood members of the Cabinet favour air Hill. For some years Mr Hill has been ■ on the staff of the Conservatorium, and is conductor of the orchestra. He is well known as a composer. Among his songs are the popular “ Waiala Pol” and “ Waiata Maori,‘V while his operas Include “A Moorish Maid" and “ Tapu." He is also the writer of several compositions for stringed in** t struments.
