I AUSTRALIA’S POSITION. ’ AN ALLEGED ULTIMATUM. THE REPORT DENIED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 30. Although the contents of the cablegram from the Australian Board of Cricket Control are still undisclosed by. the Marylebone Club the Daily Herald publishes a message from Sydney saying the board demanded an unqualified guarantee that there shall be no body-line bowling, otherwise the arrangements for the Australian tour will bo cancelled. The correspondent states that this decision followed one of the most heated discussions In the -history of Australian cricket. The Herald describes this as an extraordinary position, just When everybody had taken it for granted that the body-line dispute had been allowed to die a natural death. SYDNEY, October 1.
Mr R. Oxlade, chairman of the Australian Board of Cricket Control, flatly denies the Daily Herald’s report. He savs the board has not made any demands on the M.C.C., nor was there a heated discussion on body-line bowling At the board’s meeting. “The contents of our cablegram to the Marylebone Club will not be made known until that club -has dealt with the matter,” said Mr Oxlade.
