NEW YORK MAYORALTY
NOVEMBER ELECTION.
OPPOSITION TO TAMMANY; MR ROOSEVELT’S DESIRES. United Press Assn.-—Elec. Tel. Copyright. NEW YORK, September 29. Following acceptance by the city of a strict regularity plan by which the banks virtually will control the methods of taxation for the duration of the four years’ credit plan, in consideration of their allowance oi 54,000,000 dollars until December, and the creation of a revolving fund to save the city from virtual bankruptcy, there was a development in the political situation to-day, indicating the possible overturn of Tammany s control of municipal affairs at dhe coming November elections. Mr McKee, who received sensational evidence of his popularity in 1932, when, although Mr O’Brien was elected, his name was written on the ballot by almost 300,000 votes, this afternoon announced his Independent Democratic candidacy for the Mayoralty. The Tammany defections, which were noted in recent primaries, indicate that Mr McKee has a good chance of election, although the situation is further complicated by the candidacy of Congressman Laquardla on a third of the so-called Fusion ticket.
Mr McKee is said to have the support of Mr Roosevelt, who Is reputed to desire to oust Tammany from the control of the New York Democratic Party.
