OBITUARY.
THE REV. D. D. RODGER. PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER. The death of the 'Rev. D. D. Rodger, ) of Mount Albert, occurred on Saturday. . ~ , Mr Rodger was widely known in trm Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, which he had served for more than half a century. He was born in Alloa, Clackmananshire, in 1855. As a student evangelist he was sent to New Zealand by the colonial committee of the Church of Scotland, and he arrived in Wellington by the sailing ship Zealandia in 1877.
DR. G. E. SEVILLE. (Special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Monday. The death occurred on Saturday of Dr. G. Ei. Seville, at his residence, Morrinsville, at the age of 61 years. Dr. Seville was born at Oldham, Lancashire, and following a medical appointment in the Fiji Islands he ■commenced practice at Morrinsville in 1904, returning in 1929. Dr. Seville experienced all the rigours of carrying on his profession in a sparsely-populated district, his practice also embracing Matamata, Waharoa and Putaruru, travel at one ■time being difficult. Dr. Seville is survived by his wife, one son, Mr E. W. Seville, of Opotiki, and one daughter, Miss P. Seville, of Hamilton.
TE RATA MAHUTA. PASSING OF MAORI “KING.” AUCKLAND, Monday. The death occurred yesterday of Te Rata Mahuta Te Wherowhero, aged 49 years, fourth of the line of Maori “kings” which was set up in 1858 by the election of the famous Potatau \_Te Wherowhero to lead the Maoris J[in the bitter question of land acquisi- . i tion. / Te Rata Mahuta died at his home at Waihi, near Huntly, after several years’ illness, during which he was unable to take any very active part in the political and national life of the Maori people.
MR A. L. ARROWSMITH. OPOTIKI, Sunday. The death of Mr Arnold Louis Arrowsmith has occurred at the age of 71 years.
EARL OF RANFURLY. FORMER NEW ZEALAND GOVERNOR united Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. un LONDON, Oct. 1. The death has occurred of the Earl of Ranfurly, formerly Governor of New Zealand. ' Uchter John Mark Knox, fifth Earl of Ranfurly, who was Governor of New Zealand from 1897 to 1904, was 77 years old. He was born at Guernsey on August 14, 185 G. The Earl was married to the Hon. Constance Elizabeth Caulfield, only child of James Alfred, seventh Viscount Charlemont, and had one son—Viscount Northland, born in 1882, and killed in the Great War—and two daughters —the Ladles Constance and Eileen Knox. Lord Ranfurly was exceedingly *•' .popular in the Dominion. It was .Ik owing to his initiative and enthusiasm that the Veterans’ Home was established in Auckland. He was Governor of New Zealand when the present King and Queen visited the Dominion. The heir to the earldom is Viscount Northland, grandson of the late Lord Ranfurly.
PROFESSOR R. S. CONWAY*. LONDON, Sept. 29. The death is announced of Professor R- S. Conway, in 1928 he was Wilding lecturer in Canterbury University College, New Zealand.
