CRISIS IN AUSTRIA
CHANCELLOR’S TROUBLES, RIVAL FACTORS' DEMANDS. NAZIS WATCH IN JUBILATION. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received Sept. 19, 10.40 a.m.) VIENNA, Sept. 18. The position of Dr. Dollfuss, the Chancellor, weakened as a result of yesterday’s open -challenges from powerful groups, led by Prince Starhemberg, leader of the Helmwehr, and Dr. Winkler, vice-chancellor, respectively, ■which have nothing in common except opposition to the Nazis and Socialists, but which demand that the Chancellor incorporate their creeds In the New Constitution. Meanwhile the Austrian Nazis are jubilantly watching the disputes. Prince Starhemberg emphasises that Dr. Dollfuss will receive ’Helmwehr—that is, Fascist—-support only if he establishes a Fascist state on Italian lines. He says that it is essential to clean out the Cabinet. Dr. Winkler, while expressing loyalty to Dr. Dollfuss, declines to merge his own organisation in tht Chancellor’s “Fatherland front.” FURTHER COMPLICATION. ATTITUDE OF SOCIALISTS. SUPPORT NONE BUT DOLLFUSS. \ United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Sept. 19, 11.55 ami.) VIENNA, Sept. 18. The riddle of party balances is complicated by the Socialists’ Trade Union leaders’ decision to support Dr. Dollfuss against any form of Fascism, either Brown Shirt* or Helmwehr.
