AUSTRALIAN CONVERSION.

AMOUNT OVERSUBSCRIBED. ; A QUICK SUCCESS. TRIBUTE TO MR S. M. BRUCE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Sept, 17. > The amount of the Australian conversion loan, £10,951,226 was oversubscribed. The quick success of the conversion had a good influence on the whole group of Australian stocks and caused a general marking up oil the London Stock Exchange. Commonwealth 5 per cents, ,1945-75, touched £llO. Australia received very good press publicity in regard to the conversion, newspapers all over the country referring to it as an eloquent testimony of the wonderful recovery matle in the last two years. The Morning Post says: “It is only fair to recognise that those responsible exercised great skill In judging almost exactly the right -prloe for the issue. Even one half per cent .might have made all the difference between success and comparative failure. Mr S. M. Bruce’s resourcefulness and energy were largely responsible for the success.”
