Another Frost. —At the Ruakura Farm of Instruction 5.4 degrees of frost were recorded this morning.

Store Robbed. —The premises of Mr R. C. Helm, storekeeper, Maungaroa, East Coast, have been broken into and goods, consisting of tinned fruits and clothing, valued at £25, stolen.

Large Estate Left. —The estate of the late Mr RobVt Shennan Charters, of Greenvale station, Waikaia, and latterly of Dunedin, who died last Saturday, has been sworn for probate purposes at under £50,000.

Fire Near Plrongla. —Fire totally destroyed' a four-roomed house occupied by Mr C. F. Parr, near the Waipa River Bridge, Pirongia, this week. There was an insurance of £2OO on the dwelling and £IOO on the furniture in the Standard Office.

Thieving at Claudelands.— -Sneak thieves are active in Claudelands, and several cases of petty pilfering have occurred. One of the most annoying acts of these prowlers was the removal of a number of prize plants from the garden of a well known horticulturist.

Butter Prices Increased. —The local price of butter has been increased by one penny per pound as from to-day, following the advance on the London market. Under the new rates the retail price for finest and first grade Is Is 2d, with Is Id for second grade and lOd for separator butter.

Export of Egga.— The export of 3500 cases or 100,000 dozen eggs is aimed at this season in Otago, states a Press Association message. Although it is considered that actual exports may fall slightly short of the projected total, up to present 12,000 dozen have been shipped to the London market. -

Unemployed Hawke’s Bay Teachers.— “Until 1935 there does not appear to be much likelihood 'of any substantial reduction in the number of unemployed teachers. The position look's as if at will -be a little worse, if anything, in 1934 than it is this year,” remarked Mr W. L. Dunn, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, in a report which he submitted to the board yesterday In regard to the position of unemployed teachers In Hawke’s Bay.

Guarantee Corporation Dividend.— The directors of the New Zealand Guarantee v Corporation, Limited, Ghrlstchuroh, are recommending for t'he half-year ended August 31, a final dividend on preference shares at the rate of 7 per cent per annum, less a reduction of 20 per cent, made under the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, and a final dividend of 7id ! a •share on fully-paid ordinary shares and 3d a share on the balance of ordinary shares.

Tariff Commission and Fruit. —Mr. J. B. Gilmour,, president of the Teviot Fruitgrowers’ Association, requested the Tariff Commission yesterday that in any revision of the tariff affecting the canning industry, the interests of fruitgrowers be recognised and safeguarded. The two interests were interdependent, and ,any ; reduction of the present tariff on canned fruit would result in fruitgrowing becoming impossible. Mr. G. A. Skene, on behalf of merchants, askfed fof the removal of duty on Imported seed packets, not illustrated. The commission expects to leave for Christchurch next Thursday.
