AROUND THE RIDINGS.
RAGLAN COUNTY ROADS. PUBLIC WORKS ACTIVITIES. EXTENSIVE METALLING PROPOSED A comprehensive survey of maintenance and other work carried out in the Raglan County during the past two months was given by the engineer, Mr K. M. Wright, at a meeting of the County Council yesterday. Mr Wright ■mentioned that in the Whangape riding the crushing of some 8600 c.yds of metal required by the Public Works Department for the completion of the metalling of the Bothwell to Waikaretu Road, had been completed and the plant shifted from Waikaretu back to Bothwell quarry, where some 700 c.yds of fine metal had been crushed and stacked partly for the Matakitaki ■Road proposals and partly for general maintenance purposes.
Publlo Works Operations. Under the Public Works Department the foundation coat of metal had been completed over the unmetalled gap of about 5i miles of the Glen Murray to Rangiriri Road. Arrangements had been made by the Department for the county to supply about 2000 c.yds of fine crushed metal from Luke’s quarry for the surfacing of the whole length of road from Glen Murray to Rangiriri and some 800 c.yds had been crushed and barged to the Whangape bridge. The Public Works Department had undertaken the metalling' of the Tilco-Tiko Road. Arrangements had been made by the Department fop the Council to crush the metal at Watson’s quarry, Pepepe, for final link of the metal from Glen Murray to Waingaro.
Relief Camp on Raglan Road. In the Te Alcau riding the Public Works Department had arrangements in hand for the formation and metalling of tho Ruakiwi-Burgess Road, the Matlra Junction to Craig’s Road and the unmetalled portion of the RaglanMangatl Road. Arrangements for timber and ironwork from the Tuakau bridge for the renewal of the Te Uku Landing bridge were at present in hand. This dismantling of the old Tuakau bridge was well In hand and arrangements made with the Pukekohe Borough Council and Tuakau Town Board for the purchase of their share. In the Karamu riding arrangements had been made to establish an unemployment camp at the 14-mile peg on the Whatawhata —Raglan Road for the operating of Sutton’s quarry as a permanent quarry. Mr Wright mentioned that considerable quantities of metal had been crushed and spread on various roads In the ridings. Good work was being done by relief workers engaged- on road Improvements.
