Steps are in hand to take a poll on a strike proposal ar u°ns the 24,000 men in the running sections of the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways. This was announced yesterday by the general conference committee of engineers, firemen, conductors, trainmen and telegraphists. The men are asked to vote whether to accept a second 10 per cent, reduction In wages or to walk out.

Government officials to-day announced that a truce had been reache/l regarding the bituminous coal strike. The men, who are returning to work, have been granted minor concessions, but not the right to form a union pending the formulation of a code for the coal industry. The President also announced that a commission had been appointed to arbitrate in ail industrial labour disputes calculated to Interfere with the success of the recovery programme.
