CHRISTIAN TEACHING.
WORK AMONG). THE MAORIB. BISHOP BENNETT IN HAMILTON. A .stirring appeal for support for the Maori Mission was made by the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, in his sermon at the Cathedral last night. Practically every seat In the church was oooupied. The bishop referred to the fine singing of the Maori choir at the special afternoon service, and said It was an Inspiration to him to think\that In the Waikato, where his people had stood alOof from the Christian ministrations for nearly 70 years after the wars, such a wonderful congregation of Maori people could assemble. He did not think that any other cathedral in New Zealand could gather together such a fine array .of musical tajent from thfe Maori people. Bishop Bennett w'ent on to speak of the progress of Christian teaching among his people, and Illustrated his remarks with many Maori proverbs and figures of speech. In these days of depression, when many of the Maori people were very poor, and were having a hard struggle to live, they realised that God would take care of them. He appealed to the congregation to give their fullest support to the work of the Church among the Maoris In the Waikato diocese. Today, there were many signs that the work was bearing fruit and the prospects of further progress were bright. All offerings throughout ’the day wore for the Maori Mission. The Bishop conducted a service Ifi the Cathedral in the afternoon, a feature being the unaccompanied singing of the Maori choir.
